Melissa Biernacinski

A logophile to the core, Melissa Biernacinski founded Words by a Pro with her husband, Marek, in 2010. Originally established as Edited by a Pro, the company’s services quickly expanded from editing to include writing, consulting and translating.

Melissa also serves as director of media relations for Imagine Communications. She has been an invited panelist on the subject of media relations and authored an article for the New York-based PR News’ “Media Training Guidebook, Vol. 5,” published in early 2013. Additionally, she was an invited speaker for the City of Las Vegas’ 2013 Values Conference.

A 3rd degree black belt in Chun Kuk Do, Melissa volunteers as editor-in-chief of CKD Magazine; an assistant instructor at Cox & Gallacher Karate; and communications administrator for the United Fighting Arts Federation, an international organization. She also sits on the CKD Region 2 black belt testing board and has completed three out of four of UFAF’s Master Development Series courses.

A Las Vegas native, Melissa is one of the original members of the Northwest Career & Technical Academy’s Media Advisory Committee, which helps guide the high school’s broadcast journalism program. She, herself, earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and media studies (with a focus on print journalism) from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and is a graduate of the prestigious NEW Leadership Nevada – an annual program hosted at UNLV for Nevada’s upcoming women leaders.

While at UNLV, Melissa served as managing editor of the university’s student newspaper, The Rebel Yell. That year, the paper won first place in the country for the Society of Professional Journalists’ Best All Around Non-Daily College Newspaper category. Additionally, Melissa’s work was published in the New York Times’ College Online edition and on University Wire. Today, she regularly takes time to provide industry advice to current UNLV communications students.

Previously, Melissa served on the Board of Directors for Free to Worship Ministries and volunteered her time as co-director of marketing for the Free to Worship ’09 music festival, Southern Nevada’s first valley-wide Christian music festival. Additionally, she led marketing efforts for Community Lutheran Church’s annual medical mission trip to El Salvador – a mission she has gone on twice.

For these efforts and others, Melissa was honored by the Las Vegas Business Press as one of its 10 Rising Stars of Business (Class of 2013) and has been featured in PinPoint Publications’ Meet the Neighbor section.

For fun, she enjoys traveling, karate, photography, reading, watching foreign movies and juicing. She also sings in the Community Lutheran Church Praise Team, which has produced two CDs.
